SY : Amma how to be balanced when we are amidst egoistic people?

Amma : Ego has only one place to reside and that is inside you. You will find ego in others as long as it is active inside you. Once it becomes inactive inside you then you will see that it has disappeared in others as well. 

Only Love has the power to put ego in inactive state. Remember that nothing can be destroyed and that which is not necessary for you in your eternal journey can be put in inactive state. Knowing this truth is called Samasthiti/ balanced state.
