Experience At Vijaya Vittala Shrine

2-3-23

Pranams all,

I would like to share an experience which took place at the holy shrine of Vijaya Vittal temple at Hampi.
Our guide explained that the idol was moved to Pandaripuram ( a holy place of shri Vittal and Sri Rukmini ) during the period of the Mughal invasions.
As our guide took us into the Garbagudi, we saw that there was no idol present. Such a huge temple with the beautiful carvings looked incomplete without the idol inside. Tourists were allowed to wear footwear inside the shrine as this temple without the idol was just like any other museum.
Amma seeing this told us “how much ever one achieves in life – name, fame, possession; everything is incomplete without the touch of divine consciousness” and continued saying “your faith is the true form of god”, and keeping her hands on her waist ( just like the Panduranga idol ) asked us “am i not your Panduranga?”. As Amma spoke, the divine Leela unfolded.
There was a huge gust of wind that blew towards us. As the wind reduced, all of us were astonished to smell sandalwood fragrance around Amma. It was so sweet and strong that all of us were blessed to experience it.
Amma kept quiet and was just viewing the Garbagudi and we were all experiencing the fresh sandalwood fragrance emanating from her.
Slowly that fragrance faded away and Amma looking at our awestruck expression asked us in telugu “Yemi? Em ayindi? Chandanam abhishekam chustunnava? Chalo chalo”. (“why? what happened? Are you watching sandalwood abhishekam? Let’s go now”).
This was indeed a divine experience.
We surrender at your feet, mother Adhishakti.

Sudarshan
